Lamotrigine is the best assessed antiepileptic drug for use in pregnant women with epilepsy, with no identified teratogenicity and less risk of developmental disorders than the other antiepileptics that have been studied. Another treatment option is levetiracetam, an antiepileptic authorised for use in adults and children over 1 month of age, but it has been less studied in pregnant women
